Readers and Booze

*Please forgive my short absence from the blog world, i have been very busy lately and plan to get back to illustrating and fashion blogging asap!*

Rebel with a cause is the most adequate way i could describe J. Sabatino's fall 2009 mens collection. When it comes to menswear, designer's can easily come off as habitual and routine so it's always a treat when a designer can break through the almost robotic ingrained look that many feel (is mens fashion) and give us something stylish functional and exclusive.

With wacky vintage glasses and unconventional pairings like sweat pants with narrow modern blazers , I depict the J.Sabatino man as a mundane collegiate nerd who will eventually evolve into a rock star.

Liveblogging the Shows: Calvin Klein

In an effort to make reading Racked as much like being in the tents as humanly possible, we'll be liveblogging the shows all week, from the suspense of waiting in line (will the seats be any good?) to the drama of the runway (will anyone stumble?) to the post-show euphoria. This time around: the minimalist, structural luxe of Calvin Klein.

Show location: 205 W. 39th Street between Seventh and Eighth Aves
The skinny: Tough, futuristic silhouettes with lots of texture: Felted jackets, spiderwebby blazers, laser-cut dresses, waterfalls of skinny ruffles, layered panels of shimmery fabric, and almost all of it gray or black. What color there was—an acid yellow-green—looked like a darker take on the neon we've seen at other shows.
Celebs spotted: Vogue's Andre Leon Talley, wearing a bedazzled jacket that said "The New American Dream" and sitting with a small child—the only famous person we saw, and really the only one we needed.
Takeaway: In tough times, some designers get nostalgic (hi there, MJ.) Calvin Klein designer Francisco Costa took exactly the opposite approach, creating a feminine yet assertive wardrobe for the urban warrior.

Offsite: In the Kingdom of Ralph Lauren

How to describe the scene at the Ralph Lauren show, held this morning in Hudson Square? Opulent? Just a little. We entered the check-in area, and were confronted with a huge vase filled with pink and white roses. Then the crowd, consisting of all the top editors of basically every fashion magazine we poured over as a teen (Elle, Vogue, GQ) and a bunch of other important-looking, immaculately-dressed people (and us), waited in front of a cream curtain to enter the show. Once the curtain parted, everyone took their seats on cream-velvet-cushion-covered risers to either side of the dark-wood runway, and watched while Anna got situated and Blake Lively, dressed in a cropped leather jacket, tight grey dress and nude snakeskin lace-up Louboutins, had her photo taken with a Feedbag-wearing Lauren Bush.

As for the clothing, it was classic Ralph Lauren wasp prep. There was a bit of a flapper feel to some of the looks, like a drop-waist beaded gown paired with a wool jacket, and a short, white fur overtop a long liquidy silk gown. But Lauren hewed pretty closely to the Americana he's known for, showing fairisle wool sweaters, flannel and twill pants, shearling coats, donegal and herringbone tweed jackets and satin jodphurs in tones of ivory, cream, dusty pink and pale green. After all the models did their thing, the man of the hour came out to take his bow, looking tiny and tan in a pair of fringed leather pants, and a tight vest over a tighter white long-sleeve shirt. And then, Fashion Week was officially over.

Kira Plastinina 15 year Old Fashion Designer (Photos)

kira-plastinina-fashion-stores.jpg

The name Kira Plastinina is about to become very popular in the teen fashion world. The young lady is making quite a reputation for herself in the fashion industry. Plastinina started her enterprise two years ago and is taking the youth fashion world by storm. It stands to reason that if you want to know what teens like to wear, why not ask a teen.

Plastinina has been compared to Paris Hilton and not in the crazy party girl sense, but rather for her popularity in Russia, where she attends school by day and designs by night. Paris was a guest of honor at Kira’s latest show during Moscow fashion week. Plastinina really likes Paris’ style and wanted her opinion on her collection. The designer’s father paid Paris $2 million to be part of the event.

Currently her fashions are in over 30 family owned clothing stores across Russia . Kira is ready to take America by storm at her first US debut. Yesterday it was announced that a store will open in March on the corner of Houston and Broadway, in New York.

This business adventure was the brain child of her millionaire father. He ownes Wimm-Bill-Dann, Moscow’s largest daily and juice company. At first she was afraid but it looks like it has turned out well for the ambitious teen. Not only is Kira creating fashion, but she has a perfume line, shoes, jewelry, candles and lollipops. Sounds pretty impressive!

Teen Fashion - Getting Ready for Spring

teen fashion modelYour teen does not have to be a teen fashion model to look and feel great. All parents of teenagers know how important fashion is to them. Each teen has his or her own individual style. Some love to follow the latest trends, while others have a fashion sense all their own. Here are a few of the hottest fashion trends for teens this spring:

Floral Prints

The femininity of floral prints is often seen in the spring. Large and mid-sized floral prints are all the rage for both teens and adults this season. Dresses are the most obvious place for them, but they can also be found on shirts, jackets, pants, and handbags.

Floral prints also provide a great way to introduce color without wearing it from head to toe. White or neutral backgrounds are unobtrusive, yet when you add some brightly colored flowers to them, it really makes them pop.

The Little White Dress
The little black dress is a perennial favorite, but one of this spring's most notable trends is the little white dress. Whether it's a simple A-line or a cute little crocheted number, the little white dress is versatile and easy to accessorize. You can also easily add some punch to it with some brightly colored jewelry and shoes.

White is also a hit for the prom, for both boys and girls. White dresses and tuxedos are quite elegant, and they can be accessorized with virtually any color. If all white is too intimidating for your teen, there are some nice black and white options for the prom.

Belts and accessories

Belts are a big deal this spring. Skinny belts are making a comeback in a big way, but big, thick belts are a favorite as well. Both are being paired with dresses to slim and draw attention to the waist.

Patent is popular in accessories, and belts are no exception. A shiny patent belt can add lots of interest to almost any outfit. You can find these belts in a variety of colors, not just black and white.

Sheer Fabrics

Sheer fabrics have been all over the runways this season. There, they leave little to the imagination. In real life, they are great for layering with solid pieces.

Sheer jackets or button-up shirts in vivid prints look great with coordinating solid-colored tank tops. Scarves are also a hit this spring, and there are lots of lovely sheer ones to choose from.

Lots of Silver

Finally, silver is one of the most popular colors of the season. There are plenty of ways that teens can incorporate it into their wardrobes. Jewelry is one of them, but not the only one.

Metallic fabrics are both trendy and elegant, and they can be found in everything from dresses to outerwear. Shoes and handbags are also great in silver, and they complement the season's neutral colors very well. Even belts and scarves in silver tones can add some shine to an ensemble.

The teen fashion this season is a picture back of the 1980’s with the floral prints and bold colours back in full.

Bold colours like purple ,blue and yellows are more of a craze with the teenagers this season .Teens are preferring more of these alluring colours and embroidery patterns on the sleeves and necklines for the tops. This has been an “in” trend on many of the runway shows as well. Floral prints also stand in priority and go best with the teenager skirts, purses, blouses and many accessories associated with teen fashion.

Not to say this is a drip back to the patterns of 80’s which had seen the same youth fashion trends. Leggings are widely being coupled with a wide variety of loose long shirts and jackets of denim and off the shoulder shirts. Braiding hair is the trend in teens and we can see hair done single and double braids. The head band is back and adds on a tinge of colours for the peppy look.
Sandals are back in the footwear fashion and the strappy ones are a hit with the teens especially the ones in bright hues of yellow and red.
This is an active segment which actively has an eye on the latest styles followed by their favourite celebrities. The pretty and beautiful floral patterns used by the celebrities on the red carpets and models on the runway shows are a hot get away with the teens. These patterns on the frocks and skirts can be teamed with heals OR sandals and can be hep for evening OR party wear. Not to forget the chic shoes with floral patterns which add a tinge of divinity to the whole attire. These prints have captivated Hollywood and are taking the rest of the world by storm.
From handbags to sandals to skirts “brown” has sprung back displacing black for the time being. The current teen section is painting a picture of delight with their beauty and cool clothing designs.
This season’s speaks bold and loud in the bright colours.

Runway vs Reality: Katie Fogarty and Lily Collins in Jason Wu

Jason Wu's spring collection was full of fun party dresses that we knew Young Hollywood's stylish set would flock to immediately, but we had no idea just how soon that would be! At a recent trunk show for the designer in Beverly Hills, it girl Lily Collins was spotted wearing the same frock that model Katie Fogarty worked on the runway less than two months prior. But who wore it better? We're torn between Katie's high-fashion up-do and Lily's edgy booties, so post a comment and let us know who Wu-ed you over.
